The Golden Gate Fire Protection District (GGFPD) is required to approve new and modified access to each site within the District.  Please review the information that follows for more information on obtaining a driveway inspection.

Procedure for obtaining driveway inspection

Download the Plan Review/Permit Application Form

The Golden Gate Fire Protection District (GGFPD) is required to approve new and modified access to each site within the District.

If you plan to modify or add access to your site by road or driveway, please review the "Jefferson County Planning and Zoning Driveway and Private Road Standards".

After reviewing these documents please submit a stamped architectural drawing from your building engineer, along with a Plan Review/Permit Application and the permit fee for review by the GGFPD. If the building site meets the county standards for driveways and private roads, the Golden Gate Fire Protection District will approve the plans and agree to provide fire protection to the site.

Please complete a Plan Review/Permit Application Form and deliver it with the permit fee to the Golden Gate Fire Protection District.

Additionally, please consider the following recommendations:

  • As with other building sites throughout the GGFPD, we recommend that the owners and their contractors consider installing a water tank or cistern at or near the building sites. This is in consideration of travel distances and times for our fire equipment to reach the sites, and the general need for emergency water supplies at sites throughout the district. If the owners decide to install a water tank or cistern, we ask that they integrate the installation with a grading plan to afford road access to the water source by GGFPD equipment. We also ask that the owners and their contractors consult with GGFPD on fitting the installation with plumbing leading to a hydrant or other port to which the GGFPD equipment can be attached for pumping water.

  • As with other building sites throughout the GGFPD, we recommend that the property owners and their contractors consider tree and brush removal programs to establish defensible perimeters against wildfire hazards around their building sites. Such activity is not related directly to the grading plan, but might be a consideration with respect to grading, especially at or near the building sites.

Wildfire protection:

  1. Surround house with a six feet wide surface of gravel with a geofabric to prevent weed growth.

  2. Remove trees within 75 feet of the main house.

  3. Remove shrubs and tall vegetation surrounding the house within the 75 feet. Encourage low growing grasses such as blue grama and buffalo grass.

  4. Trim all branches from lower 10 feet of tree trunks in a protective zone (width varies)

  5. Install a 10,000-gallon cistern tank with a dry hydrant within 150 feet of the house. The tank can be filled with rain runoff from the roof of the house, but domestic wastewater cannot be used.
